While the environment, physical laboratory and hi-tech equipment are of vital importance, it is the IVF doctors, counsellors,embryologists and third party coordinators who guide and support you through the process, counsel you, perform the various procedures such as ultrasound, egg retrieval, IUI or embryo transfer procedures and optimize your chances for a successful pregnancy.

Successful ART (IVF) is almost entirely dependent on the experience and ability of the medical and laboratory personnel. All key personnel participate in regular monthly audits of our clinical and laboratory performance, pregnancy rates, compliance with ISO and PCPNDT requirements and other important activities.

Maintaining optimal pregnancy rates requires a cautious and rational assessment of individual abilities, so laboratory staff, directors and embryologists must consider their experience in the context of what will be required of them. MFC boasts of quality personnel performing each of the difficult and skilled tasks required in an IVF program. Dr.Jatin personally does most of the scans, important decision making counselling, egg retrieval, embryo selection and embryo transfer for most patients. Dr.Aparna, Dr.Dharam and Dr.Vidhi ably assist him in these procedures as well as monitoring of the cycle, important instructions and communication with patients and follow up of successful pregnancies as well as patients who have failed their cycles. Mala Tanna has been counselling patients at MFC for more than 20 years and is probably one of the most experienced IVF counsellors in the country. Arwa and Meena manage the reception and cordially coordinate patient movement to expedite and minimize time spent at the clinic. Most importantly, the embryologist team of Hima, Sachin and Jefali ensures that eggs, sperms and embryos are handled, labelled and stored in the most efficient and error free manner. They have implemented a “witness” system to ensure that there are no mix-ups in the laboratory, especially on busy days. They also ensure that all the requirements for a ‘super’ IVF laboratory are constantly fulfilled, updated and maintained. To manage the accounts and day-to-day ordering of material, stocks and payments we have the efficient trio of Jagruti, Falguni and Shalini. Behind the scenes and toiling away at data entry, consent forms, legal matters (PNDT compliance, etc) and computerization of all records using the Meditex IVF software is Dr Vidhi.

Good nursing and supportive care is vital to a successful IVF program. Headed by senior staff Namrata, is the large team of IVF nurses (Violet, Vinaya,Suvarna, Daksha&Namrata) constantly explaining procedures and consents, administering injections (both in the clinic and sometimes at the patients homes).

They are backed up by Bhikaji, Raju and Santosh in charge of OT and laboratory maintenance, ordering of essential supplies and gases, reminders for AMC visits, hygiene and cleanliness.

Dr. Jatin Shah

Director / Chief ART specialist

In 1993, Dr.Jatin Shah founded the Mumbai Fertility Clinic & IVF Center dedicated exclusively to providing infertility care. He is one of the most experienced and highly regarded fertility doctor using all aspects of assisted reproductive technology ethically and scientifically and has assisted thousands of couples in achieving their dreams. Honest, down to earth, caring and reassuring, Dr.Jatin is renowned for his proactive, thorough and holistic approach to patient care. He is exceptionally skilled in all IVF procedures and specializes in treating patients who have had multiple failed IVF attempts in the past.

Dr.Jatin began his medical career with a degree from Mumbai University (MBBS with distinction in Obstetrics and Gynecology). He completed specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Seth G S Medical college and Sir KEM hospital, Mumbai (MD – Obstetrics &Gynecology – Gold Medal)Following his residency, he completed a certified Research Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the prestigious Institute for Research In Reproduction (which pioneered the birth of India's first IVF baby). Upon completion of this fellowship, Dr.Jatin served as a Division Head of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Hope Infertility Clinic, Bangalore.

Dr.Jatin has participated in various research studies about assisted reproduction, with a special emphasis on individualized ovarian stimulation and repeated implantation failures. He has lectured extensively at both national and international infertility conferences. He has also authored and published numerous scientific papers and articles on IVF, Unexplained infertility, Ovarian stimulation protocols and has a special focus on IVF failures and Third party ART. Dr.Jatin has taught at various residency programs and served as a clinical teacher to physicians from around the country for in vitro fertilization and infertility surgery. He helped establish premier IVF clinics in different parts of the country.

Dr.Jatin is board certified, a distinguished infertility clinician and surgeon and also a charter member of the Federation of Obstetric &Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI), Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) and a founder member of the Asia-Pacific Initiatives in Reproductive Endocrinology (ASPIRE). He is also a member of European Society Human Reproduction and Endocrinology (ESHRE) and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

Today, Dr.Jatin continues his work in assisted reproductive technology, keeping up to date with the latest medical advances and techniques, on his quest to constantly improve pregnancy success rates.)

Dr. Aparna Gangadharan

Dr.Aparna Gangadharan is a fertility specialist board certified in Obstetrics &Gynecology. Following her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology she pursued a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Hadassah University in Israel under Prof Neri Laufer.

Always smiling and exuding warmth and confidence she is the first point of contact with the patient. Aparna is regarded by patients for her soft natured and caring approach, and her ability to explain complicated medical science and IVF techniques in ways in which everyone understands. She is astute with IVF counselling, transvaginal ultrasonography, intrauterine insemination, egg retrieval and embryo transfer procedures. She believes that every patient is different and needs individualized treatment in order to have the best opportunity for success in their fertility journey. Aparna is committed to combining her clinical experience with personal and compassionate fertility care, to provide excellent care to patients at Mumbai Fertility Clinic & IVF Center.

Dr. Dharam Shah

Dr Dharam Shah, son of Dr Jatin Shah, is an IVF consultant. After his Masters in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he successfully completed an educational program (Advanced Diploma in Reproductive Medicine) conducted by the Lilo Mettler school of reproductive medicine in Kiel, Germany.

Board certified since 2020, Dr. Dharam is well versed with all aspects of assisted reproductive technology and has assisted numerous infertile couples in achieving their dreams.

He is friendly, caring, easily approachable, always smiling and an expert in catering to psychological and emotional as well as medical needs of the patients.

He has a particular interest in preimplantation genetic diagnosis, recurrent implantation failures, male infertility and recurrent miscarriages.

Board certified with an FRCS and DRCOG from the Royal College of London, U.K., he promoted and began the “Kamala Polyclinic & Nursing Home” almost 50 years ago. Father to Dr.Jatin Shah, he played a major role in establishing the Mumbai Fertility Clinic and helping it become an internationally reputed organization. Sadly, he left for his heavenly abode in February, 2020 and we deeply miss his advice on critical administration matters

Dr. Shah has been conferred the President’s Gold Medal in recognition of special contribution in the field of Urology. He has also been awarded Dr. B.C.Roy National Award, PinnamaneniVenkateshwarRao Memorial Oration and Gold Medal, and Dr. R Sitharaman Memorial Award.

Dr. Vijay Kulkarni

Dr. Vijay Kulkarni, M.S., is a consultant Andrologist and Microsurgeon, practicing in Mumbai for over 25 years.

Academically, besides presenting numerous scientific papers in regional, national and international conferences, he has been a Programme co-ordinator and Director of thirteen National Andrological workshops all over India in last 10 years. He has been a senior faculty member in several seminars covering Erectile Dysfunction and Male Infertility. He has an extensive experience in the field of Male Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Techniques.

He is a recipient of “BrijKihor Patna” prize awarded by Urological Society of India in 1997 for his paper on “Electro-Ejaculation in Anejaculatory Infertility.” He was also awarded a prize for his work on “Andrological needs in Paraplegics” at the annual meeting of USI, Hyderabad, 2000. ”. His work on “Chlorpromazine as Vaso Active Drug for intra-cavernosal injection” has been internationally acknowledged.

Embryologist

Hima Shah

IVF Embryologist and Vitrification Expert

Hima Shah, Board certified with a Master's in stem cell and regenerative medicine and trained in IVF and related technologies at a leading IVF clinic in Japan now heads the vitrification (egg and embryo freezing) facility. Her persistent efforts have taken the vitrification program to a whole new level with consistent pregnancy rates in the range of 60-70% with frozen-thawed embryos. She has 5 years of hands-on experience in all facets of IVF especially oocyte screening, sperm wash, embryo culture, ICSI and vitrification. She has a special interest in quality control standards, routine laboratory checks and tests and maintenance of detailed logs of incidents, changes, unexpected events and corrective measures.

The embryologist in an IVF program plays a vital role in the journey to pregnancy for a couple struggling with infertility. During the course of infertility treatments, the embryologist will be involved from the start to finish of an IVF cycle. Hima is actively involved in preparing the embryology lab for infertility treatments by regulating and testing environmental conditions in the embryology laboratory (temperature, air quality, and humidity). She also ensures timely ordering of supplies and the culture media, incubator sterilization, monthly audits of embryo quality and troubleshooting.

Besides, she is also the daughter of Dr. Jatin and has dreams for ensuring that the clinic remains on the forefront for quality and high tech IVF services.

She ensures that any two of the three embryologists are always present in the laboratory. If one of them is performing a task, the second is playing the role of a professional witness to effectively enforce and oversee the integrity of the chain of custody of gametes and embryos during handling (to avoid MIX-UPS), particularly when large numbers of patients are being treated simultaneously.

Dr. Sachin Manjrekar

ICSI/IMSI Embryologist

Sachin Manjrekar, having an MSc is one of the pioneers of ICSI in India and has been closely associated with MFC since 15 years in the capacity of chief ICSI expert. His speed with identifying morphologically normal sperms and performing ICSI even with the lowest of sperm counts or testicular sperm is to be seen to be believed. He performs more than a 100 ICSI procedures at MFC on a monthly basis which gives an estimate of his experience and skills.

Dr. Vidhi Shah: Friendly, caring and provides reassuring expertise to patients. Easily approachable and always smiling, catering to psychological and emotional as well as medical needs of the patients.

Dr. Vidhi Shah has a long association with our clinic in the role of an IVF Counsellor. Board certified since 2010, Dr. Vidhi is an experienced fertility counsellor in all aspects of assisted reproductive technology and has assisted thousands of couples in achieving their dreams.

In addition to her interest in IVF and Third party ART, she has participated in various research studies about assisted reproduction, with a special emphasis on the use of endometrial scratch and intrauterine instillation of G-CSF in patients with repeated IVF failures or a thin endometrium. She has co-authored an international publication on the same subject.

Senior Fertility Counselor / International Co-ordinator

The Counselling Services Manager, Mala Shah, offers 20 years experience in psychological & IVF counselling and working with individuals and couples during emotionally challenging times.

She has a profound understanding of the emotional and physical impact of undertaking fertility treatment, and the process of coping with a mixture of emotions from joy and excitement to grief and disappointment. Extremely proactive, caring and professional in her approach to patients, she also fluently speaks multiple Indian and foreign languages.

Mala is always there to support you throughout your treatment, and plays a vital role in our ART service. Supportive counselling could include preparing for fertility treatment, and making decisions about your treatment, possible impact on relationships, learning to cope with unsuccessful treatment cycles and/or pregnancy losses, coping with emotions around other people's pregnancies, births and children, talking about how your family, friends and colleagues behave or react, specific concerns related to donor treatment or parenting a donor-conceived child and managing feelings of anxiety or loss of control.

Her comprehensive counselling service is available for current patients undergoing IVF, those considering ART (especially third party methods such as egg donation or surrogacy), and past patients who would like further support after failed IVF attempts. She has a diverse range of skills, expertise and experience, helping you to manage the stress and emotional impact of dealing with fertility issues.

Our Patient Liaison Administration team is here to help you understand the administrative process needed to start your treatment, explain treatment costs, subsequent visit schedules and ensure that the process is as simple and as straightforward as possible for you.

The team schedules your appointments with the counselling and medical teams, and forms the link between you and our fertility specialists, and the administration, accounts and clinical departments. Jagruti joined our team on the 8th of August, 2003 as the Office Manager, following graduation in Computer and office management from the prestigious NIIT academy.

She is qualified in all secretarial procedures and also holds qualifications in management and customer service. Her role at the Unit is varied and includes finance duties, office management, answering queries from international patients, etc. She is the patient information and website co-ordinator and also responsible for drug ordering and stock control, funding and reporting, accounts and general queries regarding treatment and investigation.
